What education and training is available for coaches?

Body Text

The key to effective coaching is to ensure that all coaches deployed in your club are appropriately qualified for the level of performance that they are delivering.

The main providers of Education and Training are SGB’s. All coaches delivering at your club should have obtained the relevant coaching Certification from their SGB. The SGB will also be able to give you guidance on what level of coach should work with your club members.

In recent years a large number of SGB’s have produced new UK approved award structure titled The UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC). For more information on this national initiative see the link in the right hand panel.

Initial Education and Training is only the first step for your coaches. All coaches should undergo Continuous Professional development to ensure that they remain as competent as possible.

Your SGB and LA will be able to support you with this by providing a wide array of educational opportunities for development.

In addition your coaches may be also be able to access coaching scholarships and mentoring programmes from either of the above. If you engage more than one coach it may also be beneficial to set up a programme of internal coach support to aid development.
