Barclays Spaces for Sports is Barclays’ new three- year community sponsorship programme, which is being delivered with two partners, the Football Foundation and Groundwork.
Barclays believes sport has a key role to play in revitalising local communities, so have chosen to focus on regeneration through sport, creating sustainable sports sites for people to engage in sport and physical activities in areas without such facilities. Barclays Spaces for Sports is now Barclays’ flagship community scheme, the single biggest investment of the bank’s commitment to invest 1% of pre-tax profits in the community.
The Foundation has lead responsibility for:

21 flagship sites will be delivered – these will be the scheme’s largest sports based regeneration facility projects, typically linked to Barclays Premiership clubs

the development fund strand of Barclays Spaces for Sports is a revenue stream that will assist all flagship and local sites once their physical regeneration is completed. This funding will help communities work towards ensuring usage and development plans are put in place, enable relevant and appropriate coaching, training and mentoring programmes to take place on site, and generally assist communities to address issues including sustainability, site management and maintenance.

the kit and equipment strand of the programme. Barclays Spaces for Sports will provide each of the sites with funding to purchase supplementary kit and equipment. In addition, Barclays will award over 3,000 coaching packs over the three year period to those teams from areas most in need across the country. The pack will which will provide coaches with just about everything, including bibs, whistles, training discs, water bottles, coach jackets, stopwatches they need to work with their teams.
The Foundation’s Junior Kit Scheme also sits in the team, as it has Barclays Premiership logo on the shirts.
Groundwork UK has lead responsibility for the 150 local sites that will also be provided from multi use games areas (MUGAs) that will offer opportunities for sports like football, basketball, netball and tennis through to sites with skateboard or BMX tracks.
