What are school-club links?

Body Text

A school-club link could be defined as an agreement between a school and a community based sports club to work together to meet the needs of young people, providing them with new and varied opportunities and help them to realise their ambitions. It is also a mechanism for agreeing good standards of provision.

“School-Club links” is a term often used in strategic documents, grant applications and general discussion within Sports Development/PE and School Sport and National Governing Body Organisations. It is becoming more and more used and there is a great need for schools and clubs to work more closely together – if only just in communication!

Many young people take part in school sport, but there are fewer who take part in activities outside of school.   And after they leave compulsory education most young people do not take part in any form of regular sport of physical activity at all.
