Volunteers

Body Text

As most clubs are very aware, volunteer administrators, officials, coaches and helpers are crucial to the successful running of their club and the dedication of volunteers is worthy of considerable recognition. However many individual volunteers are often over burdened and not always given the thanks that they deserve, as a result many clubs struggle to recruit and retain volunteers.

Volunteers are at the heart of Scottish sport and they play a vital role in encouraging and supporting people's involvement in sport....Reaching Higher, The National Strategy for Sport.

The following guidelines provide some stimulus for recruiting, managing, supporting and recognising your club’s volunteers.

An excellent starting point is the runningsportsVolunteers booklet which is a comprehensive guide to the recruitment and training of volunteers for any sports organisation.

Also, in Scotland, Volunteer Centre Network Scotland has published a series of five Club Tips booklets covering all aspects of volunteering, also linked in our Resources panel.
